The Friendship Auditorium was filled with holiday cheer, laughter and a strong sense of camaraderie as RLACEI hosted its annual holiday celebration — and what a celebration it was. With more than 230 Retirees in attendance, this gathering marked the largest and most well attended event in RLACEI’s history. It underscores just how meaningful these opportunities for connection and fellowship are in retirement.

Favored with perfect Southern California weather, Retirees, guests and partners gathered for an afternoon filled with tasty food, lively entertainment and holiday spirit.

Santa Claus (who resembled RLACEI Director Larry Tinson) was present to ensure that everyone was on the “nice” and not “naughty” list! Attendees could take a photo with Santa!

Attendees had an opportunity to hear remarks and updates from LACERS Commissioner Tom Moutes, Retired LACERS General Manager Neil Guglielmo, newly appointed LACERS General Manager Todd Bouey and Assistant General Manager Dale Wong-Nguyen.

Also joining our group of partners was Education and Training Officer and Club Founder John Hawkins from the Employees Club; Alive! editor John Burnes who captured the event through photography; and representatives from LACERS Well and the Los Angeles Credit Union, all contributing to the success and enjoyment of the celebration. These representatives further emphasized the strong partnerships that continue to support and enrich the Retiree community. Their collective participation highlighted the continued commitment to keeping Retirees informed, valued and connected.

Guests enjoyed a traditional holiday lunch catered by Mr. Ardi’s Catering, featuring roasted turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable medley, fresh green salad, and apple pie. The meal and entertainment provided for great conversation, laughter and reconnecting with friends and former colleagues.

For Retirees who felt adventurous, karaoke was available, offering a chance to test vocal talents or simply enjoy the performances of friends brave enough to take the microphone. Laughter and applause filled the auditorium throughout the afternoon.

Everyone in attendance enjoyed the Ugly Sweater Contest. Participants proudly displayed their “ugliest or not so ugly” holiday sweaters. Prizes were awarded to the top three winners of the contest who displayed the ugliest, most creative, and most interesting designs, to the delight of the audience.

Excitement was in the air while Retirees listened for their ticket numbers to be called, with lucky winners receiving gifts generously provided by RLACEI, the Employees Club, Los Angeles Credit Union, and LACERS Well.

To add to the holiday cheer, Retirees had opportunities to win five grand prizes from RLACEI and Santa Claus that included a microwave, a humidifier, a coffee maker, a stock pot set, and $50 in cash. Smiles, cheers and friendly applause filled the room as winners returned to their tables.

While the day was filled with fun and festivity, the purpose of the event went beyond celebration. RLACEI gatherings are designed to promote socialization and camaraderie in retirement, helping Retirees stay connected and engaged.

RLACEI’s ongoing mission in hosting these events is to advocate for and protect Retirees’ benefits, while fostering a strong, informed and supportive Retiree community.

As the event came to a close and holiday wishes were exchanged, one message was clear: This record-breaking celebration was a powerful reminder of the importance of coming together — not just during the holidays, but throughout retirement.

Thanks to the RLACEI directors and volunteers who contributed to making this event successful and enjoyable.
