SANITATION’S HYPERION PLANT WINS AWARD OF MERIT FROM INDUSTRY.

Sanitation and Environment’s Advanced Water Purification Facility (HAWPF) received the Award of Merit in the regional Water/Environment category from Engineering News- Record, an industry news source.

As part of a proof of concept toward the city of Los Angeles’ ambitious goal of recycling 100 percent of its wastewater, this full scale 1.5-million-gallon-per-day facility is now one of the largest water reclamation plants in the country.

To help create a new, sustainable water supply for Los Angeles and fully reuse all water at Hyperion, the plant treats primary effluent to provide high-quality, nitrified-denitrified recycled water for various uses at the Los Angeles International Airport, including cooling tower make-up water, toilet flushing and other non-potable uses.

“Winning a 2025 Southern California Best Projects award is a huge honor,” Sanitation wrote. “The competition was steep, and we’re incredibly proud of our team for this recognition.

“This facility is a key part of our work to secure a sustainable water future for Los Angeles. Thank you to everyone who made this project a success!”

Well done, Hyperion crew!
