You might know Dr. Ed Krupp as a world-famous astronomer. After you read this month’s cover story, another element appears: Dr. Ed Krupp, public servant.
For what stars in this month’s cover story is not, well, the stars. What stands out is public service. He teaches. He shares. He greets. He rebuilds and renovates. He advocates for public access. He holds it dear; Dr. Krupp professes that the famous Griffith Observatory, which he directs, belongs not to him or elites, but to the people of Los Angeles. That might be the greatest gift of this very gifted man, who has been a City employee for an astounding 56 years.
When I stood next to him atop the Griffith Observatory roof overlooking Hollywood below, I realized something – he not just observes the sky; for the Club and his fellow City employees, he is the sky. He is what we see when we look up, the true model of public service.
Thank you, Dr. Krupp, for your continuing dedication to municipal excellence. And readers: Make sure to enjoy part two of our feature, scheduled for the June issue.
