Phineas Banning’s birthday party has a new name and focus.
The Banning Museum in Wilmington has long celebrated the birth of the founder of Wilmington and the “father of the Port of Los Angeles.” This year the event gets a new focus.
For 2026, the Rec and Parks museum is introducing a new name and a refreshed vision for the birthday tradition. It’s now the Banning Museum Summer Bash.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 15.
“The Summer Bash will bring together live music, dancing, great food, and community spirit for an unforgettable summer evening on the grounds of the historic Banning Museum,” the museum says. “As part of America’s 250th Anniversary celebration, we’ll also honor the entrepreneurial legacy of Phineas Banning, whose vision helped shape the Los Angeles Harbor region.”
The museum is located at 401 E M Street in Wilmington. It’s a Rec and Parks facility.
