From June 26-28, El Pueblo Historical Monument – Olvera Street – held its first-ever El Pueblo de Los Angeles Heritage Festival, a three-day cultural “extravaganza.”
The free event coincided with the World Cup excitement. A major Fan Fest took place across the street at Union Station over the same weekend.
To welcome the World Cup spirit, El Pueblo reinvented the majestic Pico House to become Celebration Plaza. For three weeks this new configuration complemented the high-energy of the World Cup with live music, food and team apparel shopping.
El Pueblo was reimagined as a vibrant community space where global culinary experiences met local tradition. The Plaza State featured live music all weekend. A Kids Zone and Beverage Garden were also offered.
El Pueblo Historical Monument is the oldest section of Los Angeles and is the site where the city was first established in 1781. The 44-acre park consists of numerous historic buildings, museums, a beautiful outdoor plaza and the world-famous Mexican marketplace on Olvera Street.
The Monument represents the rich history, culture, and ethnic diversity that is the foundation of the City of Los Angeles.
