Public Works: A man dedicated to making Los Angeles more beautiful has retired.
Paul Racs, Director of the Office of Community Beautification, Public Works/Board of Public Works, retired after 39 years of City service.
Paul was a Club Member for 34 years.
His retirement ceremony and reception were held July 24 in the Board of Public Works room and the office behind it in City Hall.
The Club was present to present him with a Club Retirement Plaque.
Many colleagues and friends spoke at the ceremony. He was presented with a Council resolution from representatives of Council District 1.
For nearly four decades, Paul was a tireless champion for cleaner, greener and more beautiful neighborhoods, leaving a lasting impact on communities across the City of Los Angeles. His leadership, passion for public service, and commitment to civic pride have inspired generations of City employees and volunteers alike.
Paul’s wife, Mei Kwan, Assistant Director of the LA Zoo, retired after 37 years of City service in May. Alive! covered her retirement story in the July issue. Their son, Kenny Racs, is a Management Assistant at the City’s Civil and Human Rights Dept.
