On Nov. 14, department veteran Jaime Moore was confirmed by the City Council as the next Chief of the Fire Dept. He had been nominated by Karen Bass Oct. 24.

Chief Moore becomes the second permanent Latino Fire Chief in the City’s history and the first bilingual leader to hold the position.

The department veteran becomes Chief after his last position of Deputy Chief of Operations in the Valley Bureau. He has more than three decades of LAFD ser vice, having started his career as a Firefighter in 1995.

He replaces Interim Chief Ronnie Villanueva, an LAFD Retiree who filled in the role.

Chief Moore takes the helm of one of the nation’s largest fire departments during a pivotal time for the City. Under Chief Moore’s leadership, the LAFD will continue to advance necessary reforms to strengthen our emergency preparedness, improve response times, modernize operations through data, technology, and enhance firefighter wellness and morale.

Chief Moore’s appointment follows an extensive career that has spanned leadership in major wildfire responses, arson investigations, counter-terrorism, and operations management. As Deputy Chief of Operations for the Valley Bureau, he oversaw more than 1,000 Firefighters and civilian staff across 39 stations. He also played a role in professionalizing FireStat LA, the department’s performance management and data-driven operations system.

After his swearing-in, he stopped by Fire Station 69 to check in with crews pre-deployed for impending rainstorms. Chief Moore also joined a patrol through the Palisades, connecting with residents and sharing how LAFD prepared for the storm.

The Club congratulates Chief Moore and to continuing to tell the stories of LAFD personnel under his watch.
