Every year, departments put aside their hard work and come together for fun and socialization at their festive holiday parties. And Alive! publishes as many of your party pics as we can, in print and online.

Starting this month, we cover the City Parties. And we’ll continue in the next months as the photos come in.

Happy New Year!

Harbor Construction and Maintenance

Harbor Construction and Maintenance’s annual holiday breakfast party – complete with plentiful calamari – took place Dec. 18 at the C&M yard in the Port of LA.

That was a little too late to run a full story in this issue. But since it’s a major holiday tradition, we plan to publish much more about it next month.

Airport Police

On Dec. 6, Airport Police’s Community Relations Team hosted a Holiday Kickoff, a community event featuring food, games, raffles, toy giveaways and a Christmas trunk goodies giveaway. Grand prizes included Bose Quiet Comfort headphones and a Nintendo Switch game set.

General Services

On Dec. 4, General Services wrangled up holiday fun as it held its annual holiday party at the Friendship Auditorium near Griffith Park. The department titled its festivities the GSD Holiday Wild West Roundup.

Hundreds of employees attended the Western-themed event, which featured a buffet lunch, fun and games, trivia, a photo booth and more.

The Club honors and thanks Melody McCormick, Assistant General Manager, for leading the effort to produce the party, and for inviting the Club to attend.

Hollywood On Parade

93RD HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS PARADE RUMBLES DOWN THE BOULEVARD WITH CITY COUNCIL SPONSORSHIP.

Actor Luke Wilson was the grand marshal of this past year’s Hollywood Christmas Parade, held Sunday, Nov. 30 in Hollywood. The parade also aired on national television Dec. 12 and supported the U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots program.

The annual parade is presented in association with the City. Many City dignitaries and the LAFD participated.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade simply could not exist without the dedicated work behind the scenes of hundreds of City employees in Public Works/Street Services, the LAPD, LAFD, LADOT, LADWP, General Services, and others. We thank you for your excellent service in making LA shine!

West Valley Sanitation

Our friends at West Valley Sanitation donate food and hundreds of toys every year for Christmas. Those images are coming next month; but this year, the team restarted a food drive for Thanksgiving, too.

The effort was headed by Mike Muniz, Club Member.

“All the original guys who got this started and kept it going had retired,” Mike told Alive! When he got back from vacation, no one had taken it up, he said. “I’m not going to let it die on my watch.” He took control and recruited others in the effort.

For Thanksgiving, the West Valley team donated 100 turkeys and many other provisions to the Guadalupe Center in Canoga Park for those in need. The yard raised $3,040 in a short amount of time to keep the tradition alive.

“It’s our way of giving back to the community, to those in need,” Mike said. “We’re fortunate to have what we have, and we want to give back.”
