It’s an annual Alive! tradition! As Alive! puts away our holiday decorations for another
year, we bring you the last of the City’s 2025 holiday party scene.
Every year, Alive! covers as many parties as we can, in print and online. Enjoy!
LAPD Skate
On New Year’s Day, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, Club Member, joined staff from LAPD Central and 77th Street Areas and the LAPD Foundation to give at-risk youths an introduction to ice skating. The event, co-sponsored by the LA Kings and Lazy Dog Restaurants, was held at LA Live.
Chief McDonnell, who grew up in the ice-friendly city of Brookline, Massachusetts, was the original goalie for the LAPD hockey club.
LADOT Central Traffic
Traffic Officers from LADOT’s Central Area Office spread holiday cheer with a Toy Giveaway at Christopher Dena Elementary School in Boyle Heights. Thanks to funds collected from the Central Area Office’s social club, 285 children were able to receive a toy. Several Traffic Officers volunteered on their day off to distribute the toys, and the children even enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus himself.
LADOT thanks these Traffic Officers for their contributions to the community, and Santa Claus for utilizing his aerial micromobility sled to stop by!
West Valley Sanitation
In its revived annual tradition, the employees at the West Valley Sanitation Yard in Canoga Park collected hundreds of toys for needy children, which it then donated to the nearby Guadalupe Center for that purpose. The yard then held its annual holiday lunch.
The toy drive and holiday lunch took place Dec. 19. Mike Muniz, Club Member, led the efforts. In all, West Valley collected and donated 235 toys and six bikes to the Guadalupe Center.
Emergency Management
LA’s Emergency Management Dept. employees spent Christmas night monitoring and managing the City’s response to torrential rains.
Here’s the crew at the City’s Emergency Operations Center with Mayor Karen Bass.
“I am deeply grateful to City employees who stepped up over the holiday to staff our emergency operations and support residents across Los Angeles,” the mayor wrote. “Their commitment helps keep Angelenos safe.”
Thanks for your holiday service, EMD!
