Over the last months, Airport Police has honored two with Distinguished Service Awards. The Distinguished Service Award is among the highest honors bestowed upon those who exemplify exceptional dedication, leadership, and excellence in the line of duty. It recognizes individuals whose work creates a lasting impact on their department and the community they serve.
On Feb. 24, the division recognized Det. Pedro Torres for his outstanding investigative leadership in solving a complex armed robbery at LAX. Over the course of a five-month investigation, Det. Torres demonstrated remarkable persistence, strategic coordination, and analytical expertise—leveraging multiple departmental resources, collaborating with allied law enforcement partners, executing 20 search warrants, and coordinating an 80-Officer tactical operation.
Det. Torres’ professionalism, commitment, and determination embody the very definition of distinguished service—advancing public safety through diligence, teamwork, and unwavering dedication.
On Oct. 16, the division honored Airport Police Sgt. Shane Young, whose visionary leadership led to the establishment of the first Crisis Intervention Team at LAXPD. His efforts built critical partnerships with LA County resources and advanced compassionate responses to homelessness and mental health needs—all while ensuring the safety and security of airport operations.
