Officer Sherry Melsheimer, Club Member, becomes dept.’s first female Motorcycle Officer.
Harbor: On Aug. 12, the Port Police welcomed its first female certified Motorcycle Officer in its history. She is Officer Sherry Melsheimer, Club Member.
The ceremony took place at the LAPD’s Edward M. Davis Training Facility in Granada Hills.
Officer Melsheimer was one of six program graduates Aug. 12 from the LAPD Basic Police Motorcycle Training Program (part of the LAPD Motor School), considered one of the most prestigious and challenging motorcycle training programs in the country with an attrition rate of approximately 50 percent. Completing LAPD Motor School requires weeks of rigorous training, discipline and perseverance.
The other graduates were Corporal Jorge Medina, Montebello PD; Officer Emmanuel Flores, Glendale PD; Sgt. Paul French, Burbank PD; Officer Jaycon Sanchez, Irwindale PD; and Officer II Brandon Levinson, Valley Traffic, LAPD.
Her Own Path
Motor Officer Melsheimer began her City career as a Park Aide with Rec and Parks in 2018 and joined the Port Police in 2022. In addition to her motorcycle certificate, she also serves on the Port Police Dive Team and its Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup running team. She is also a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
