The Employees Club of California mourns the death of Deputy Levi Vargas of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept.’s San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. Deputy Vargas died of a medical emergency March 28 while participating on a Sheriff’s Dept. team in March’s Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay. He is thought to be the first participant in the annual footrace to succumb while participating.
A candlelight vigil was held April 10 in San Dimas. A funeral was held April 14.
The race was created by and is managed by the Los Angeles Police Revolver and
Athletic Club.
The Club respects and honors all those from law enforcement across the world who participate in this 120-mile team running event. We sponsor teams, and we cover the race extensively every year in Alive! We are especially grieved by Deputy Vargas’ passing.
We offer our deepest condolences to Deputy Vargas’ wife, parents, siblings and extended family.
