Club delivers Member value as it presents its first Pins of Purpose ceremony.
Thursday afternoon, Aug. 6, marked an important day for the Employees Club of California and for the public service employees it represents: On that day, the Club held its first Pins of Purpose ceremony, honoring three Club Members, one from each of the Club’s three main constituencies: the City of Los Angeles, the State of California, and Los Angeles County.
Pins of Purpose is the Club’s newest Member benefit – complimentary service pins that recognize eligible Active and Retired Members for milestones reached throughout their public service careers. Pins are available for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years of public service.
The first three Club Members honored with Pins of Purpose in a live ceremony were Brian Hale, Retired, LADOT, City of Los Angeles, 51 years of City service; Veronica Giles, Retired, Dept. of Public Health, Los Angeles County, 42 years of County service; and David Jew, Dept. of Motor Vehicles, State of California, 8 years of State service.
The ceremony was held at Club Headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.
“It’s super important that we do this kind of work,” CEO Robert Larios said as he began the first pin ceremony. “It is our way of celebrating, honoring and giving thanks to each of you for the dedication and service you provided.
“Three incredible careers, honored in one room. We’re grateful for each of you!”
The ceremony represented more than two years of background work from the Club to design the program, produce the pins, and execute the program’s launch.
Cheryl Martin, Club Relational Ambassador, presented the pins with heart and poise. “For nearly 100 years, the Employees Club has existed for one reason – to celebrate and honor the people who show up and never ask for the spotlight,” Cheryl said. “But today, we get to do that in person – to shine the light on you. You are in the spotlight today.
“Today’s ceremony is very special to me,” she continued. “I get to present for the very first time our Pins of Purpose. These pins are dedicated to you and your service. They are everything that we’re about.”
Eva Ramirez, Employers First Choice Club partner and independent Club agent, attended to congratulate and honor the recipients.
Club staff Lupe Lira managed the event logistics and created a warm, organized and memorable tone. She also represented the Club’s Retiree Society and welcomed the recipients into their retirement.
In attendance for the memorable event were Club staff members Cesilee Castillo, Customer Service Representative; Frank Ochoa, IT Accountant; and Monica Zamudio, Sr. Claims Administrator. Club media was also on hand to capture the moments.

“Thank you for all you have done for the City, State and County,” Robert Larios said. “Our mission is to honor you.”
