Following a homicide in Sonora, California State Parks law enforcement Officers played a key role in the safe apprehension of a murder suspect at Columbia State Historic Park (SHP).
On June 28, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a homicide on Lime Kiln Road in Sonora. After identifying a suspect, the Sheriff’s Office issued a be-on-the-lookout alert and publicly released photographs of the suspect and his vehicle the following day.
Shortly after the alert was issued, several community members reported seeing an individual matching the suspect’s description in and around Columbia SHP. Staff immediately contacted State Parks law enforcement Officers.
Sgt. Jackie Olavarria and Officer Chris Johnson located the suspect and safely took him into custody without incident.
The actions demonstrated by State Parks personnel contributed to a safe and successful outcome.
