Tom Gibson named new Director.
On June 29, Tom Gibson was appointed Director of the Dept. of Water Resources (DWR) by Gov. Gavin Newsom. He succeeded Karla Nemeth, who left for other employment. Gibson was sworn in July 6 by California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot.
Tom has been serving as the Lead Deputy Director at DWR since 2024. Prior to that, he led the department’s Office of General Counsel and previously served Californians at the California Natural Resources Agency and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
