Chief Erik Hostetter has been named Battalion Chief, serving the eastern portion of Amador County.
He began his fire service career in 1992 as a volunteer with Riverside County Fire in Temecula. During his 13 years as a volunteer, he served as a Firefighter and volunteer Engineer. He also spent nine years as a volunteer Communications and Support Dispatcher in the Perris Emergency Command Center. Although he retired from volunteer service in 2005, he continued supporting CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service as a Call When Needed Equipment Operator while operating Hostetter Sand & Gravel Inc. for 20 years.
Erik began his Cal Fire career in 2017 as a Fire Apparatus Engineer in the San Bernardino Unit. He was promoted to Captain in 2020 and, in 2024, was promoted to Battalion Chief in the unit. He is a registered Office of the State Fire Marshal State Fire Training Instructor and Mine Safety and Health Administration Instructor. He serves as co-lead of the CSR C-236 Heavy Equipment Boss Cadre and the Sacramento C-237 Hired Equipment Technical Specialist Cadre, and has contributed to several other CSR training cadres.
Erik is qualified as a Division/Group Supervisor and Strike Team Leader for Engines and Heavy Equipment. He is a member of CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 as a Hired Equipment Technical Specialist and serves on the Statewide Command and Control Committee, Tablet Command Working Group, and the Statewide Hired Equipment Committee. In the San Bernardino Unit, he served as the Hired Equipment Coordinator for eight years and the HEMS Administrator for seven years.
